Position the scale
Place the scale on a firm, level surface according to its instructions. Check kilograms and the zero reading before stepping on.
Keep conditions similar
Stand still in the centre, removing shoes and heavy pocket items. When following measurements over time, record the timing and use comparable conditions.
Do not turn weight into a score
For children, use neutral language and avoid praising or criticising appearance based on the number. Weight needs to be understood alongside height, age and developmental context.
